‘Mardelaselva is a concise reflection on my identity.’

Marisha Boekstaaf

I am constantly searching for a hidden truth, a truth that is revealed through the creation of objects where nature takes centre stage and surreal eroticism provides the accent.

What captivates me most about Suriname is the mystery of its chaotic beauty.

Interpreting the formulas that nature uses to create patterns is a challenge that fascinates me and amuses me like a game.

The shapes and movements of the female body are central elements in my work. Through a collection of kimono dresses with patterns taken from rainforest leaves and digitally printed on silk, I seek to highlight the inherent sensuality of women. These pieces envelop the body in delicate foliage, enhancing its forms.

In ceramics, I seek magic in organic forms, playing with weight, texture, and movement in representations of momentary visual captures. Freezing a fleeting instant that conveys a certain dynamic.

Bio

Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, she has had the privilege of living in cities such as Caracas, Mexico City, and Madrid. Each of these cities has influenced her perspective and creative approach. She currently lives and works in Malaga, where she has a creative workshop open to the public.

After an extensive career in graphic design in Spain, she decided to pursue a more personal and authentic path as a designer. This change has led her to develop a graphic concept that celebrates the profound beauty of nature. She is particularly inspired by the perfection of the forms found in forests and on coastlines, where each element seems to reveal an astonishing harmony.
